How to Be a Guest Blogger

The more the merrier!

What works best for a guest post? Use a personal story and give us some engaging details. Then pull it all together by giving the reader your perspective or opinion. What did you learn from your experience and how might we follow in your footsteps?

Original content:

All posts submitted (and accepted!) should be exclusive to SlowMarketing.org for at least 30 days. After that, feel free to republish on your own blog.

Length:

Posts should be as long as they need to be; no longer. In general, somewhere between 600 and 1000 words is a good rule of thumb. But shorter or longer also works — as long as your point is made.

Bylines:

Add a short bio at the end of your post that includes no more than two links. Be sure that the email you use to submit your post is connected to your Gravatar account.

Formatting:

Copy and paste the formatted guest post into the body of an email for readability. In addition, copy and paste the HTML version of the post and email it as a .txt attachment. Make sure there aren’t any span > tags specifying fonts.

Images:

We like to use free images whenever possible. Check Flickr’s Creative Commons, or www.sxc.hu. In your email, include one or two links to suggested photos.

Links:

Your post may not include any affiliate links. You can link back to a post on your blog, but only if it is absolutely relevant and critical for the topic. Otherwise, these are generally frowned upon.  Links to content on the Slow Marketing site are encouraged; as well as one or two outbound links to other highly relevant sites that provide more information on your topic.

Proofread:

Please ensure your post is free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Editing:

Be prepared for edits — both at the initial submission and final post stage. Don’t be offended. We want the post to be as successful as possible. In the end, we both have to be happy with the post before it’s published. I will never edit your work without your permission (except for spelling/grammar).

Comments & Marketing:

Plan to answer all comments when your post goes live. Tweet it, Facebook share it, Stumble it…whatever you can to get the word out. You can be sure we’ll do the same.
